GONDA, UTTAR PRADESH: Two youths lost their lives and a woman was injured after being struck by a vehicle allegedly part of the convoy of Karan Bhushan Singh, the younger son of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. The incident occurred on Wednesday, May 29, near a school in Gonda, Uttar Pradesh, police reported.

Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh is the current Member of Parliament (MP) for Kaiserganj and a former chief of the Wrestling Federation of India. It remains unclear if either Karan Bhushan Singh or Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh were present in the convoy at the time of the incident.

According to Kernalganj Station House Officer (SHO) Nirbhay Narayan Singh, the victims Rehan Khan, 17, and his cousin Shehzad Khan, 20, were riding a motorcycle when they were struck by the SUV. The injured woman, Sita Devi, 60, has been hospitalized. Police have been deployed in the area to maintain law and order following the incident.

The SUV involved, bearing the registration number UP32HW1800, is registered to Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh’s educational institute. The vehicle reportedly lost control before hitting the motorcycle. The police have seized the SUV and arrested its driver, Lavkush Srivastava, as reported by The Indian Express.

Additional Superintendent of Police, Gonda, Radhey Shyam Rai, stated that they are recording the driver’s statement to piece together the sequence of events. A preliminary inquiry revealed that on the morning of the incident, Karan Singh’s convoy, consisting of four vehicles, was passing through Karnalganj. Three vehicles had crossed the railway crossing, but the fourth vehicle, which was later involved in the accident, was delayed due to a passing train.

After the train had passed, the driver of the fourth vehicle allegedly accelerated to catch up with the other vehicles, colliding with the motorcycle near a petrol pump. Accounts suggest that the motorcyclist swerved to avoid an elderly woman crossing the road. Upon witnessing the collision, the woman fell unconscious, according to police officers.

The investigation is ongoing as authorities continue to gather details and witness statements to fully understand the circumstances leading to the tragic accident.
