New Delhi: Robert Vadra, husband of Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and son-in-law of Congress leader Sonia Gandhi, expressed his happiness and support for Priyanka’s candidacy from Wayanad. He remarked on his readiness to follow her into Parliament when the appropriate time arises.

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, known for her extensive campaigning in Amethi and Rae Bareli, has officially entered electoral politics following the announcement by her brother, Rahul Gandhi. Rahul, who had previously won Lok Sabha seats from Rae Bareli and Wayanad, decided to relinquish the Kerala seat, paving the way for Priyanka’s candidacy.

Political Background

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has been a prominent figure in Congress party campaigns for years but had not contested an election until now. Her active involvement in politics began prior to the 2019 general elections, although her official entry into electoral politics was marked by the Wayanad candidacy announcement.

Robert Vadra’s Statements

In his statement to PTI, Robert Vadra expressed gratitude to the Indian public for what he described as a lesson to the BJP regarding religion-based politics. He emphasized his belief that Priyanka deserves to be in Parliament due to her long-standing efforts in campaigning for the Congress party.

“First, I would like to thank the people of India for teaching a lesson to the BJP. They played religion-based politics. I am happy that Priyanka Gandhi is going to fight from Wayanad. She should be in Parliament, not because she has been campaigning but I want her to be in the Parliament,” Vadra stated.

Indicating Future Political Aspirations

Robert Vadra also hinted at his own political aspirations, suggesting that he envisions himself in Parliament at some point in the future. However, he expressed that Priyanka should precede him in this journey.

“She should be in the Parliament before me. I can follow whenever is the right time. I am happy, and I hope people will give her a good mandate,” he added.

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s entry into the electoral fray in Wayanad marks a significant moment for the Congress party, particularly following Rahul Gandhi’s decision to vacate the Kerala seat. With strong support from her family, including her husband Robert Vadra, Priyanka’s candidacy is being closely watched by political observers and the public alike.
