New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary, Jay Shah, has laid the foundation stone for the board’s state-of-the-art training facilities in North-East India. This development aims to enhance the cricket infrastructure for six states in the region: Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, and Sikkim.
Jay Shah announced the initiative on X, highlighting the comprehensive facilities that will be provided. The new infrastructure will include world-class indoor nets, indoor swimming pools, and fitness centers, ensuring year-round training options for the cricketers from these states.
“Honoured to have laid the foundation stone for BCCI’s upcoming state-of-the-art indoor training facilities in the North East! Our cricketers from six states – Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, and Sikkim–will soon benefit from world-class indoor nets, indoor swimming pools and fitness centres for year-round training options. This, along with the launch of the new pavilion in Mizoram, are big steps towards our vision to enhance cricket infrastructure in the region. Exciting times ahead!” Shah tweeted.
The inclusion of these six North-Eastern states in the domestic cricket scene began ahead of the 2018-19 season. Their presence has grown, and in 2022, the North East Zone (NEZ) competed in the Duleep Trophy, marking their first-class debut. Following this, in 2023, the NEZ participated in the Deodhar Trophy, a List-A competition, for the first time.
This initiative is a significant step towards developing cricket in the North-East region, providing the necessary infrastructure to nurture local talent and elevate their performance on a national level.
