Thrissur: A tragic incident in the Thrissur district of Kerala resulted in the death of a woman and the hospitalization of 178 individuals due to food poisoning after consuming Biryani from a local restaurant in the Perinjanam region. The victims reported symptoms such as diarrhea and vomiting.
The deceased, identified as Uzaiba (56) from Kutilakkadav, was admitted to Thrissur Medical College with complaints of stomach ache and vomiting. She, along with two relatives, was receiving treatment there.
Following the incident, the restaurant has been closed. Health Department officials, alongside representatives from the Food Safety Department, panchayat officials, and the police, conducted an inspection of the establishment. Panchayat authorities have vowed strict action against the restaurant.

Thrissur Food Poisoning:
Vineeta Mohandas, the Panchayat President, stated, “Residents of Perinjanam and Kaypamangalam are in the hospital. They have been admitted to various hospitals in Kodungallur and Iringalakuda. The health department, panchayat, food and safety officials, and the police conducted an inspection of the hotel.”
A team led by epidemiologist Kala from the District Medical Office and IDSP Officer Dr. Geeta collected evidence from the hotel. The health and food safety departments conducted an inspection and subsequently closed the establishment. Samples of the food have been collected for analysis to determine the cause of the food poisoning.
Health department officials revealed that the hotel was operating under unsanitary conditions. Reports have been filed at Kaypamangalam Police Station and Perinjanam Panchayat. Authorities also met with those hospitalized to gather more information.
On Saturday night, individuals who consumed Biryani from Sain Hotel in Perinjanam began experiencing fever, diarrhea, vomiting, and other symptoms around midnight and sought treatment at various hospitals.
The health department has announced that legal action will be taken against the hotel officials responsible for the food safety violations.
