In a resolute declaration after filing his nomination for Uttar Pradesh’s Varanasi Lok Sabha seat, Prime Minister Narendra Modi reaffirmed his stance against divisive politics, particularly the divisive rhetoric often framed around Hindu-Muslim dynamics. Modi emphasized that engaging in such tactics would render him unsuitable for public office, emphasizing his commitment to inclusive governance.

During an interview with Network 18, the Prime Minister clarified that his recent campaign speeches, wherein he mentioned “infiltrators” and “those with more children,” were not directed at any specific religious community. Modi adamantly rejected the notion that discussions about family size automatically targeted Muslims, asserting that economic concerns transcended religious boundaries.

The Prime Minister shared personal anecdotes to illustrate his longstanding bonds with individuals from diverse backgrounds, including Muslims. He reminisced about celebrating Eid and other festivals with Muslim neighbors, highlighting the cultural exchange that characterized his upbringing. Modi underscored his aversion to exploiting such personal connections for political gain, expressing discomfort with publicizing these aspects of his life.

Addressing perceptions about his relationship with the Muslim community, Modi acknowledged challenges in dispelling certain narratives, particularly those stemming from incidents like the 2002 Godhra riots. Despite this, he remained confident in garnering support from all segments of society, emphasizing his belief in the electorate’s judgment.

Modi’s nomination filing ceremony witnessed a gathering of prominent political figures from across India, underscoring the breadth of his coalition. The event showcased a diverse array of leaders standing in solidarity with the Prime Minister, symbolizing a united front ahead of the upcoming elections.

Reflecting on his deep connection with Varanasi, Modi expressed gratitude for the opportunity to represent the historical constituency once again. He pledged to continue serving its residents with dedication, citing past achievements and promising accelerated progress in the future.

Before concluding his nomination formalities, the Prime Minister participated in religious rituals, including the Ganga aarti at Dashaswamedh Ghat, underscoring the spiritual significance of his candidacy. His visit to revered sites underscored the symbiotic relationship between his political responsibilities and his spiritual beliefs, resonating with constituents on multiple levels.
