Parvej Khan, a 19-year-old Indian athlete from Haryana, has recently captured attention with his remarkable performance at the NCAA SEC Outdoor Track and Field Championship in the United States. Khan secured a gold medal in the 1500m race, clocking an impressive time of 3:42.73s, adding to his earlier bronze medal win in the 800m race category.
Hailing from the Metwa district of Haryana, Khan comes from a humble family background, with his father, Nafees Khan, working as a farmer. At the age of 13, Khan embarked on a journey to pursue his passion for athletics, leaving his village to train in Delhi at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium for a year. Subsequently, he relocated to Bhopal, where he trained under coach Anupama Srivastava at the Sports Authority of India (SAI).
Khan’s talent soon began to shine through as he clinched gold at the U16 nationals in Mangalgiri in 2019, followed by a bronze medal at the Khelo India Youth Games in 2020. His achievements continued to soar as he claimed the gold medal at the 2022 National Games in the 1500m race, setting a new personal best time of 3:40.89s.
Determined to further his athletic career, Khan seized the opportunity to pursue a scholarship at the University of Florida in the United States. Joining the Florida Gators athletics team, Khan made his mark in the NCAA Championships, showcasing his exceptional talent on an international stage.
