Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent visit to Takhat Sri Harimandir Ji Patna Sahib in Bihar’s Patna on Monday garnered attention as he actively participated in the traditions of the revered Sikh shrine. This visit holds significance not only as a religious gesture but also in the context of political and cultural harmony.
Ahead of the Prime Minister’s visit, stringent security measures were implemented to ensure his safety and the smooth conduct of the event. Upon his arrival at the holy place, PM Modi immersed himself in the spiritual ambiance, paying homage at Darbar Sahib, which holds special reverence as the birthplace of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji, the tenth Sikh Guru.
Engaging deeply with the rituals, PM Modi joined the Ardaas, a Sikh prayer, and listened to Live Kirtan, devotional hymns sung as a form of worship. Moreover, he had the privilege of viewing the rare `shastras’ (weapons) used by Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji, adding a profound cultural dimension to his visit.
Takhat Sri Patna Sahib, also known as Takhat Sri Harimandir Ji, Patna Sahib, stands as one of the five takhats of the Sikhs, holding historical and spiritual significance. Commissioned by Maharaja Ranjit Singh in the 18th century, the construction of this takhat commemorates the birthplace of Guru Gobind Singh. Born in Patna in 1666, Guru Gobind Singh spent his formative years here before relocating to Anandpur Sahib.
During his visit, PM Modi actively participated in the community service (seva) of Chaur Sahib, showcasing his respect for the Sikh tradition of selfless service. Additionally, he sat in Paath for “Sarbat Da Bhala”, a prayer for the well-being of all humanity. The Prime Minister also partook in “karah prasad”, a sacred offering, and made a digital payment for the same, reflecting modernity and adaptability.

This visit follows PM Modi’s recent roadshow in the state capital, where he became the first Prime Minister to hold such an event in Bihar, signaling political outreach and engagement with the people. Continuing his itinerary, the PM is slated to address election rallies in support of NDA nominees in Hajipur, Muzaffarpur, and Saran on Monday.
PM Modi’s participation in the rituals at Takhat Sri Harimandir Ji Patna Sahib underscores the essence of cultural and religious inclusivity, fostering harmony and understanding among diverse communities.
