Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani, the Lok Sabha candidate from Guntur representing the Telugu Desam Party, has emerged as the wealthiest candidate in the current elections with declared family assets exceeding Rs 5,700 crore (Rs 57 billion).

He is the second wealthiest candidate to participate in the Lok Sabha election in the last two decades based on declared assets.

The candidate with the highest assets in the past was Nandan Nilekani, the co-founder of Infosys, who ran as a Congress candidate from Bangalore South in the 2014 elections.

The majority of Pemmasani’s assets fall under the moveable segment.

In 2004, the wealthiest candidate was Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wadiyar, the Congress candidate from Mysuru, with assets exceeding Rs 1,500 crore (Rs 15 billion).

In 2009, V M Singh (Congress) possessed the highest assets amounting to Rs 632 crore (Rs 6.32 billion). Ramesh Kumar Sharma, an Independent candidate from Pataliputra, declared assets worth Rs 1,107 crore (Rs 11.07 billion) in 2019.
