Sunil Chhetri Bids Farewell to Indian National Team: “My Last Game Will Be Against Kuwait”

Sunil Chhetri, the iconic figure in Indian football, has announced his retirement from the Indian national team. In a heartfelt video shared across his social media platforms, Chhetri revealed that his final appearance for India will be in the upcoming match against Kuwait, scheduled as part of the FIFA World Cup qualifiers’ second round, to be held at the Salt Lake Stadium on June 6.

Reflecting on his decision, Chhetri shared the emotional journey behind reaching this milestone. He recounted informing his family about his retirement plans, revealing that while his father reacted with a mix of relief and happiness, it was his wife’s unexpected tears that struck a chord. “When the instinct came that this should be my last game, I thought about it a lot, eventually I came to this decision,” Chhetri expressed.

Acknowledging the mixed emotions surrounding his retirement, Chhetri admitted to feeling a profound sense of sadness. “Do I feel sad sometimes every day because of this? Yes!” he confessed. Despite the bittersweet nature of his decision, Chhetri emphasized the privilege and fulfillment he experienced throughout his career, describing representing the country as living the ultimate dream.
