In a devastating turn of events, four individuals lost their lives due to lightning strikes in separate incidents across Odisha’s Ganjam district. The tragic incidents occurred amidst thunderstorms and heavy rainfall, highlighting the unpredictable and deadly nature of natural calamities.
The victims were identified as Sanyashi Sahu, Lambodar Panigrahy, and Sanjay Gouda from Ganjam district, and Dugun Pradhan from Khurda district. Each person’s demise serves as a grim reminder of the swift and indiscriminate impact of lightning strikes.
Sanyashi Sahu and Dugun Pradhan, who were engaged in selling toys at Pattapur, sought refuge under a tree during the thunderstorm. Tragically, lightning struck them while they sheltered, rendering them unconscious. Despite immediate efforts to transport them to the nearby hospital at Digapahandi, their lives could not be saved.

Similarly, Lambodar Panigrahy fell victim to a fatal lightning strike, succumbing to the electric discharge in the vicinity of Badagarh. Despite swift medical attention at the Badagarh hospital, his life could not be spared.
In another heart-wrenching incident, Sanjay Gouda faced the same fate as lightning struck near his village. Despite efforts to rush him to the sub-divisional hospital in Hinjili, his life could not be saved, leaving his loved ones grieving.
These tragic events serve as a stark reminder of the need for heightened awareness and preparedness during adverse weather conditions. Lightning, often underestimated in its destructive potential, underscores the importance of seeking appropriate shelter and taking precautionary measures to mitigate risks during thunderstorms.
As communities mourn the loss of these individuals, authorities and residents alike are reminded of the importance of proactive measures to enhance safety and minimize the impact of such natural disasters. Collaboration between local authorities, emergency responders, and communities remains paramount in safeguarding lives and mitigating the impact of unpredictable weather events.
