Bhopal: The Madhya Pradesh Culture Department has launched an ambitious web series titled Yug Yugeen Bharatvanshi to highlight the rich history and cultural heritage of ancient India. This series aims to educate viewers about the numerous tribes that once inhabited the vast region now known as Greater India, which includes present-day India, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Maldives, Bhutan, Nepal, Cambodia, Myanmar, and Thailand.
Series Overview
The web series explores the history of approximately 160 tribes that lived across this extensive area 5,000 years ago. It covers the rulers of these tribes, their wars, traditions, scriptures, and lifestyles. The series also traces where the descendants of these tribes live today. Scripted by Rajeshwar Trivedi and directed by Hemant Gupta, Yug Yugeen Bharatvanshi is available on the YouTube channel of Veer Bharat Nyas, an initiative under the Swaraj Sansthan of the Culture Department.
Episodes and Reception
So far, seven episodes have been released, focusing on tribes such as Kandhar, Kamboj, and Licchavi. More episodes are currently in production. The series has been well-received, with over four lakh views, indicating significant public interest.
“The objective is to make the current generation aware of India’s ancient past—its personalities, culture, and traditions,” said Shriram Tiwari, Trustee Secretary of Veer Bharat Nyas. He added that the series scientifically explores the tribal kingdoms of ancient India and will include episodes on the incarnations of Lord Vishnu and Lord Krishna.
Government Initiatives
The initiative is part of a broader effort by the Madhya Pradesh government to promote and preserve cultural heritage. The web series is being produced in studios in Bhopal, reflecting a commitment to high-quality production standards.
In May 2023, the government established the Atal Tunnel Planning Area to control land use and construction activities, preventing unregulated expansion as tourism grows in the region.
Future Plans
The Culture Department plans to continue expanding the series to cover more tribes and historical narratives, ensuring a comprehensive portrayal of ancient Indian history. This project stands as a testament to the Madhya Pradesh government’s dedication to celebrating and educating the public about the diverse and rich history of Greater India.
