Saran, Bihar – In a tragic incident of election-related violence, Chandan Rai, a young man preparing for competitive exams, was shot and killed at close range. The incident occurred amidst escalating tensions in the Saran constituency, where fierce political rivalry between RJD chief Lalu Prasad and incumbent BJP MP Rajiv Pratap Rudy has heightened unrest.

Chandan’s father, Nagendra Rai, a farmer, expressed his grief and shock over his son’s death. “Chandan was a bright student, focused on his studies and preparing for competitive exams. His life was cut short by this senseless act of violence,” he said.

The violence also left 37-year-old Guddu Rai critically injured. Guddu, who was shot in the waist, is currently undergoing treatment at Patna Medical College and Hospital. According to hospital sources, the bullet is still lodged in his body, and surgery is being considered, pending stabilization of his vital parameters. “Guddu is not out of danger yet,” a hospital source said. “We can only operate once his condition improves.”

Another victim, Manoj Rai, who sustained injuries during the incident, accused BJP supporters of opening fire. “We were unarmed and engaged in a heated argument when they suddenly started shooting at us,” Manoj claimed.

The election in Saran has become a prestige battle between major political figures, with the constituency having a nearly even population of Rajputs and Yadavs. The RJD last won the seat in 2009, adding to the competitive atmosphere.

Authorities are investigating the incident, and there are calls for a thorough and transparent inquiry to bring the perpetrators to justice. The local community remains on edge, with fears of further violence as the election date approaches.

This incident underscores the urgent need for increased security measures and political accountability to prevent further escalation and ensure the safety of all residents in the region.
