Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri on Sunday accused Pakistan of using terrorism as an “instrument of state policy” against India. Speaking to reporters, Puri emphasized that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, India has delivered a clear message to Pakistan, vowing to eliminate terrorists within its territory.
“Pakistan is a country which has consciously and continuously practised the use of terror as an instrument of state policy,” Puri stated. “Ever since Modi ji came to power, those who were into cross-border terrorism have received a strong message.”
Puri also held the Congress party accountable for the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, describing them not as riots but a massacre. He criticized the Congress for not offering a “proper apology” for Operation Bluestar, a military operation carried out in 1984 to flush out militants from the Golden Temple.

Puri highlighted India’s economic advancements since Modi took office in 2014. “In 2014, India was ranked 11th in terms of economic position. It has now reached the fifth position,” he noted. He also mentioned that India’s GDP is currently USD 3.95 trillion and is poised to surpass Japan, which holds the fourth spot.
The Union Minister pointed out that the country’s capital expenditure is growing by 30 percent annually. He referenced the interim budget, which earmarked Rs 11 lakh crore for capital expenditure. In contrast, he noted that during the Congress’s tenure from 2004 to 2014, urban spending was Rs 1.70 lakh crore, whereas in the past decade under the Modi government, it has increased to Rs 18-19 lakh crore.
Puri also expressed his support for BJP candidate Sanjay Tandon in the Chandigarh Lok Sabha seat, stating that Chandigarh deserves representation by someone who understands the city’s ethos and problems. Tandon is contesting against Congress’ Manish Tewari.
Drawing a distinction between the BJP’s manifestos and those of other parties, Puri claimed, “We delivered what we promised in 2014, 2019, and will continue to fulfil our promises in 2024 too.” He accused the Congress of trying to gain power on a “false narrative” by making unviable promises and criticized the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), a member of the INDIA bloc supporting the Congress nominee in Chandigarh, for offering “revaris” (freebies) to the public.
Puri emphasized the importance of the “double engine” government, urging Chandigarh residents to vote wisely. He argued that electing a BJP candidate would ensure the city’s growth through the synergy of having the same party govern both the center and the state.
This statement reflects ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan, highlighting the Modi government’s stance on national security and its economic achievements.
