A delegation from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), led by External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, met with the Election Commission to file a complaint against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for his recent remarks on the Army. The BJP sought strict action against Gandhi for allegedly making divisive comments regarding soldiers’ backgrounds.

Rahul Gandhi had purportedly accused the Modi government of creating two categories of soldiers based on family wealth, alleging discrimination against soldiers from poor and marginalized backgrounds. The BJP delegation denounced these remarks as false and detrimental to the morale of the armed forces.

Addressing reporters after the meeting, Jaishankar emphasized the seriousness of Gandhi’s comments, labeling them as an attack on the armed forces and a matter of national security. The delegation urged the Election Commission to take stringent action against Gandhi and ensure a retraction of his statements.

Jaishankar underscored the importance of respecting the armed forces, particularly during elections, and condemned any attempts to politicize or undermine their contributions to national security. He warned against the dangers of using soldiers for political gain and reiterated the BJP’s commitment to upholding the integrity and dignity of the armed forces.

Highlighting previous instances where the Congress and Rahul Gandhi allegedly criticized the armed forces, Jaishankar emphasized the need for accountability and respect for the sacrifices made by soldiers. He reiterated the BJP’s stance that such attacks on the armed forces for political purposes are unacceptable and urged the Election Commission to take decisive action in response to Gandhi’s remarks.
