As the hunt for Rahul Dravid’s successor as the head coach of India’s men’s cricket team continues, former India opener Gautam Gambhir has broken his silence on the possibility of taking on the prestigious role. Despite maintaining a low profile on emerging as a frontrunner for the top job, Gambhir recently shared his thoughts on the matter, shedding light on his aspirations and commitment to the national team.
Gambhir, who recently led Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to their third Indian Premier League (IPL) title in the 2024 edition, has garnered attention as a potential replacement for Dravid. With no notable foreign candidates stepping forward for the position, Gambhir’s name has gained momentum in cricketing circles.
Expressing his willingness to coach the Indian team, Gambhir emphasized the immense honor associated with representing the nation on the global stage. “I would love to coach the Indian team. There is no bigger honor than coaching your national team. You are representing 140 crore Indians and those across the globe as well,” Gambhir remarked during an event in Abu Dhabi, as reported by PTI.

Dravid’s tenure as head coach is set to conclude in June, with the T20 World Cup marking his final assignment with the Men In Blue. As anticipation builds for India’s campaign in the tournament, Gambhir’s potential appointment as the new head coach has generated considerable buzz among cricket enthusiasts.
Addressing students at Medeor Hospital in Abu Dhabi, Gambhir reiterated the collective effort required to secure victory in the upcoming World Cup. Emphasizing the importance of fearlessness and the support of the nation, Gambhir underscored the role of every Indian in the team’s success. “It is 140 crore Indians who will help India win the World Cup. If everyone starts praying for us and we start playing and representing them, India will win the World Cup. The most important thing is to be fearless,” Gambhir affirmed.
As speculation swirls around Gambhir’s potential appointment and India’s prospects in the T20 World Cup, cricket enthusiasts eagerly await further developments on the coaching front and the team’s performance on the global stage.
