Health Concerns Prompt Extension Request

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) cited health reasons for the extension request. Kejriwal needs to undergo a PET-CT scan and other medical tests. The party stated, “Kejriwal has to undergo PET-CT scan and other tests. Kejriwal asked for 7 days to get the investigation done.”

Health Deterioration Post-Arrest

Since his arrest, Kejriwal has reportedly lost seven kilograms and has a high ketone level, which could indicate an underlying disease, according to the AAP. These health concerns have been a significant factor in the plea for the extension of his interim bail.

Campaigning for the INDIA Bloc

After his release from jail, Kejriwal has been actively campaigning for the INDIA bloc in the ongoing Lok Sabha elections. The elections in Delhi were held on Saturday, May 25.

Interim Bail Conditions

The Supreme Court had imposed several conditions on Kejriwal while granting interim bail:

  • He was prohibited from interacting with any witnesses or accessing any official files related to the excise policy case.
  • He was restricted from making any comments regarding his role in the case.
  • The court also mandated that Kejriwal “shall be bound by the statement made on his behalf that he shall not sign official files unless it is required and necessary for obtaining clearance/approval of the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi.”

Next Steps

The Supreme Court is expected to consider Kejriwal’s petition for an extension of his interim bail. The court’s decision will determine whether the Delhi Chief Minister can remain out on bail for the additional time needed to complete his medical evaluations.

This case continues to be a significant point of interest in Indian politics, reflecting both legal and health-related challenges for one of India’s prominent political leaders.
